Lochgilphead, as the crow flies, is at the very heart of Argyll (a phrase coined by us a number of years ago) and used for a small local initiative to market the surrounding region. It is the second largest town in Mid Argyll with a population of around 3000 people and growing steadily, second to Oban. Lochgilphead is the headquarters of Argyll & Bute Council at Kilmory.
The town was founded in 1790 at the very top of Loch Gilp, a small inlet on the west side of Loch Fyne with the local 9 hole golf course founded in 1963. The high street features a plethora of small shops, estate agents and several banks.
Shopping in the town is provided by a small supermarket, and a grocery store at both petrol stations.
People who enjoy fitness will enjoy using the Mid Argyll swimming pool and the Mid Argyll sports centre.
