Dunans Castle sits at the head of Glendaruel, glen of the river, in Argyll. The historic structure was shown on maps as far back as 1590 and was the seat of the clan Fletcher
The castle sits in 16 acres of ground.
The Fletcher clan whose previous home was Achallader Castle moved to Dunans in 1745 bringing with them the door from Achallader. The original mansion style house was converted into it’s present Franco-baronial form by Edinburgh based architect Andrew Kerr and consisted of four main apartments and six bedrooms.
The B listed building passed out of Fletcher hands in 1997 and was run as an hotel until it was gutted by fire on 14th.January 2001 losing its main roof. Sadly the building was left as a ruin.
