On the east shore of Loch Sween, a twelfth century castle ruin (in particularly good condition) overlooks the loch from it's strategic position in Knapdale.
The castle, in care of Historic Scotland is quite large and not too dissimilar to Skipness Castle, certainly they would have been built around the same time.
Rating: 3/5
How to get there: Drive towards Crinan and take the Tayvallich turn off, at the fork follow the road signposted Achnamara (not Tayvallich) until you reach the end of the road.
