Situated in the centre of town, and with a long and close association with the Stewart Kings of Scotland, Rothesay Castle is unusual in terms of Scottish castles, being largely circular. It is also remarkably well preserved for such an early castle, with much of what you see today dating directly back to its original construction in the early 1200s. The great hall in the gatehouse, restored in 1900, now contains displays about the castle and its royal owners.
