Tarbert Castle is a small castle riun that overlooks the mighty Loch Fyne from an elevated viewpoint offering stunning views across Tarbert Harbour, Tarbert Village and of course the magnificent Loch Fyne.
Historically Tarbert Castle was said to be the stopping off point for Robert The Bruce on his journey up and down Kintyre and on one occasion as the King of Scotland commissioned work to be done to the castle.
Much of the castle is no longer there, although the remains of the keep which hold a dungeon underneath (not accessible by the public) have been 'structurally restored' for future visits.
Rating: 1/5
Notes: There is still some scaffolding on the castle at this time which prevents the best photography opportunities (December 2011)
How to get there: Walk around the harbour side and to the side of the Loch Fyne Gallery (not the toilet side) there are steps that lead up to one of three entrances to the castle. There are sheep at the castle.
