Crinan Canal

Connecting the Crinan Basin on the west coast of Argyll to Ardrishaig on the east mainland (west coast Loch Fyne), the Crinan Canal was once one of the most shipping passages for people and goods particularly from Glasgow to Oban and the islands.

The Crinan Canal is used by dozens of yachts and small pleasure boats as they pass through Loch Fyne, the canal and then to the Sound of Jura rather than navigate the coastal water all around the west coast plus you get to see some stunning landscape and sail in calmer waters.

The Crinan Canal started construction in 1793 and finished in 1801 stretching 9 miles and contains 15 locks. The towing path is excellent for walking and cycling and a number of interesting places to stop along the way including country pubs.
